Great news everyone, MyTown 4.0 was successfully submitted to the Apple App Store! You should expect to see it available for download in the coming days! This revamped version of MyTown is better than ever. We've completely overhauled the town UI, implemented item creation and a trading system (to be discussed later), added new levels and building upgrades, included a feature where check-ins will recharge over time, and of course, created new and powerful items.
With all these new features, we thought that now would be a great time to explain the impending changes to MyTown. We'll start with the new UI.
Revamped Town UI
Looks nice right? We've made quite a few changes to the property pages. The two pictures shown are of the same property. The one on the left is the default look you will see when you click on the MyTown tab, and the one on the right is what it looks like when you click the menu button.
In the top-left corner, you'll notice that each building is now distinctly marked with its upgrade level. Additionally, each building has a property type designation in the top-right corner. Having a variety of property types in your town will be important with our inclusion of item creation (to be discussed in our next post), as certain items can only be created at specific property types.
We've consolidated most of the property actions in the pop-up menu button. Everything that you would want to do to a property can be found by clicking menu. You can comment on a particular location to tell friends (and others) about a certain dish, you can upgrade your property, sell the property, create an item, and also edit the look of your property from this clean and easy-to-use interface. We think that by adding this feature, the process by which you interact with your town will be streamlined
In our next post, we'll go through the steps of creating an item, and also trading different items with friends. Stay tuned!
Are unused check-ins rolled over to the next day or are the lost?

Rent Collector Update:
Hi everyone, we're going to submit an immediate patch for the rent collector problems you're experiencing. In the meantime, if you are so bold (BE SURE TO READ THIS NeXT PART), you can delete and reinstall your app. After doing this, do NOT download the rent collector again until our patch is live.
There are some problems which can occur if you delete and reinstall. They include the fact that some properties can be lost (Especially if you've bought extra property slots) and a loss of virtual currency (make sure you've connected MyTown to the internet recently so that our servers can sync with your device). To avoid these problems, be sure you've registered and validated your email with us, and have played "online" recently.
As we said, the patch should be out shortly, so waiting may be the best option.
Items not loading:
This problem should be fixed by mid-afternoon. All your items should resync with the server and you'll be able to use them once again!

You CAN actually COLLECT ALL RENT:
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent.
NOTE: For every property that you stop by, the rent from that property will be included in your collection. For example, if you only scroll through 10 of your 18 properties, then when you Collect All Rent, it will collect rent from those 10 properties then it will reset for all 18. Booyah says that it is working on this bug fix.
This basically defeats the purpose of the Collect All Rent button, but by following the above steps, at least you don't lose the rent from all of your other properties.

Why do I get the "Could not load item from the server" messages in my Items list?

Hi Guys,
We're aware of the Collect All Rent Collector bug, and we're actively working on a solution. We'll update you as we further investigate the problem. We're sorry for the inconvenience and we appreciate your patience.

Anyone know a way to disable the "collect all rent" button?
Posted by: Hlodde | Jun 03, 2010 at 10:40 AM
Please fix the "collect all rent" button... Just got a new update and ready to race to lvl 70 but i'm at a huge disadvantage because i purchased the 5 dollar upgrade.. It only collects rent from one property but empty's the rent from all 34 other properties at the same time!!!

Get rid of the "connect to internet to keep collecting rent" and fix the rent collections and you've got a great app again

I started a post on MyTownies.net that shows what the new items are and how they are earned. It is admittedly sparse at the moment, but with some help hopefully we can fill it out fairly quickly.

Well aside from the expected quirks with any new update I am very impressed with the way things are shaping up on MyTown 4.0.
Keep going in this direction and any past qualms we may have had with previous updates may be forgotten!

So far the only thing NOT working with the NEW version is the "Collect All Rent". I concur with those that have posted so far about it not working. Other than that I have to say this is one of the better upgrades of late considering all that has happened. Please fix the "collect all rent" soon.

Actually, the "Collect All Rent" problem is worse than I thought.
Once you press Collect All Rent, you only get credit for the current property that is showing. The current property will reset to 0 and the rent amount will start accruing again. But not only that, the rents for ALL the properties will reset to 0 even though I get no credit for any of them. For example, if I have 3 properties and they have (A) $10000, (B) $20000, (C) $25000 in rent accrued, when I click on Collect All Rent when I'm at property A, my bank account increases by $10000 only not $55000 while the rent for all 3 properties reset to 0. I'm losing lots of rent money due to this.

The power ups are NOT gone. Just try to buy it again, and iTunes will tell you that you already purchased it so you can download it for FREE. However ...
My COLLECT ALL RENT isn't working correctly. I re-downloaded it after the 4.0 upgrade, and the button says "Collect All Rent Unlimited uses," but when I click on it, it only collects rent for the given property and not for all properties.

It's true the 1 mytown was better, n then the 3.1, was great., but the limted check in's, it's nit good, cause if I, dint fill good n not do my 40, check in's, I, lose the check INS I dint do. 4 example let's say I, get 40, check INS n I do only 20, cause I'm sick or doing something n I, can't play 4 the rest if the day I lose the other, 20 check in's. N that's not fair. I hope the knew mytown comes out soon, n it's better.

I kind of agree with some of the comments about how this game went down hill fast.
I wasn't afraid to spend a buck or two on upgrade coupons or anything like that. but now? not worth it! If this next update doesn't make this game for me again, it's getting deleted and you guys wont see any more of my money...
My town was my favorite app, now? its one i hardly even play anymore

What else did you do that your not going to tell us about till everyone downloads it and gets pissed cause your ruined something?

Recently, I made an in-app purchase for MyTown. The "Rent Collector (Unlimited)" feature. It worked for a day, then I logged back on, and it was gone. I spent $5.39 on that thing, and it WAS worth it, until it was gone.
Not to mention, some of my buildings just disappeared, and everything I purchased in the Store was able to be purchased again. I didn't touch anything, I wanted to be able to say that I didn't mess with any data or anything.
BooYah? What do I do?
Also, I'm still a huge fan of the game, as you can see, I did purchase an in-app item for once. I love the game.

Im sorry to say im still disappointed. I believe if it is not broke don't try to fix it, or you come out with something like version 3. Kinda sad with the drastic changes every month, it makes long time users who have been playing since the release not want it anymore.
Limited check-ins? That ruined the game beyond belief. I figured the more time someone spend on your game, the more you should reward them. That is what made it fun. I would stop playing other games just for this one. Also proximity made it too easy. It robbed from the people who invested time.
Now let talk about invested MONEY. Really sad to find out that people spend cash on (power ups) become useless after an update. That is just plain ripping people off in my opinion. If you are not going back to the version you had back in march, then make a similar game with a different title that matches that one. because on chomp and the rest of the review sites people are making that statement, " Bring back version 2".
The only people i see giving positive reviews at this time are new players because they don't know what they were missing. Sorry to go on and rant about this, but i know 4 others that i turned on to this game have written in and got no response via feedback. So i decided to write it here plain and simple on the blog. Hopefully It will be read.....

Sigh... so over it. I quit "playing" My Town several weeks back after a run of about 3 weeks. It's too easy to game the system and level up and stock pile cash. There are only 4-5 distinct actions that make up the entire game. Unfortunately, having points and money associated with check-ins shifts this from a social application to a competition. Not to mention, the game is pretty dangerous motivating players to do drive-by check-ins for points and money.
I'm done. Nice as a concept, but I'm waiting for the next big thing in location/social apps.
Cheers.
