MyTown 4.0 is now available for download. You can get it free here! In our previous post, which can be read here, we went over the new and enhanced town UI. In addition to the UI change, MyTown 4.0 boasts a host of new features, including the ability to create items at properties, a trading function, Collectibles (now called Stamps) which have special abilities, the addition of exclusive items that drop at green and yellow proximate check-ins, and 10 brand new challenging levels! Check-ins will also recharge over time, and there are items which drop upon check-in that give players extra check-ins! Additionally, once you reach level 70, you will have unlimited check-ins! We hope you enjoy this reward for completing MyTown! ;)

Given that Item Creation and Trading are new to MyTown, we'll explain these a bit more below. Enjoy MyTown 4.0!
Item Creation
MyTown 4.0 introduces the concept of item creation. Items will be created from the property page, and each item has basic requirements in order to be made. Certain items can only be made at specific property categories (you can see what category your property is when checking-in and also by looking at the top-right hand corner of the property page), some items require you have enough skill points to create them, and others can only be made if your property is upgraded to a certain level. One Skill point is acquired each time an item is created. Once you've created an item a few times, you'll be able to build the next item, given you have the correct Parts (these are dropped when checking-in) to make the item, and have upgraded your property accordingly.
Below is a step-by-step flow for item creation:
When you're looking at a property that has the ability to create an item you'll notice a pop-up icon above the menu button
Once you click the create item button from the menu, you'll be taken to a screen which tells you about the requirements necessary to create the item. Each item requires "parts", money, and a certain amount of time. An important note: when you're creating an item, you will be unable to collect rent from this property during that time.
Once you click the create button, the item creation process begins! You'll be taken to the property screen where a progress bar will be shown.
After the process has been finished, tap the complete button. You'll be shown a reward screen showcasing your achievement!
Trading
You can initiate a trade with any of your friends. To do this, tap the items button on your home page, then click the "trades" sub-tab. Once you're at this screen, click the "Request Item Trade," and select the friend you want to trade with. You can trade multiple items at a time with a friend.
After you've submitted your trade proposal, you can see the status of it from the same "trades" tab as mentioned above. Here, all pending trades (ingoing and outgoing proposals) are housed, along with the status. You can cancel a trade at any time! Be sure to check the trade page often as you'll need to click the "collect" button once a friend has accepted your trade!
And there you have it. Make sure to download MyTown 4.0 for FREE from the app store now! And while you're at it, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook. We'll be giving away t-shirts, among other things in the coming weeks! Enjoy!
Update 1: Unlimited Rent Collector Bug
Currently there is a bug that affects the use of the Unlimited Rent Collector button. A patch for the problem should be available shortly. It's been submitted to Apple, so right now we're simply waiting for Apple to approve it. If you have the Unlimited Rent Collector, you can collect ALL your rent by following the below steps.
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every
property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent."
This is only a temporary solution. The patch should be out in a few days, and when it is, your Rent Collector will work as expected. Thank you for your patience.
Why am I not getting the free upgrade when I go up a level as it says I've got a free upgrade??

I recenty attained level 70, but do not have unlimited checkins and it has made me fairly upset. Is therre a glitch or do I have to do something more?

@JB,
We have addressed this issue in our latest patch. Many of the issues which were arising were because of confusing UI. A user would place a stamp in an unacceptable area, so the stamp would go to their inventory, but in a different place than where it was originally. That being said, there were some items in certain edge cases that were mysteriously disappearing, and this issue has, as I've stated, been fixed.
Hope that helps!

So, I've noticed that the Booyah team has yet to (publicly for anyone, privately for me) respond to any of the "Items have gone missing" messages that I've found anywhere on the forums, other than to ask if we - the users - have used the software incorrectly, seemingly implying that losses are our fault in some cases.
Do you guys want to do anything about this, or shall I ask about it again in a week or 2?

Hi @CJ,
The designations should be shown on the buildings when you click business details. We're working on the categorization features right now, so they should be more fine-tuned in the future.
Additionally, what items are disappearing? This shouldn't be happening. Have you scrolled through the different item tabs?

How do I fined sports and fitness locations?
I own the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Soxs and Fenway Park, all of which are classified as business.
today I tried searching for fitness, sports and YMCAs - again all have business designations.
help
I enjoy the game, but if I have purchased something, and I have purchased many things, I feel cheated when they disappear and I have to buy again.
Thanks for the fun.

Hi Terri,
In order to make certain items, you have to possess a certain skill level. To get skill points, you must create lower level items.
Thanks for playing,

Where are you people finding all these items? I'm pretty sure I'm missing something.
Posted by: CC | Jun 10, 2010 at 01:32 PM
@conner There's a newly built forum here: http://boards.mytownies.net/index.php
Created by @adam. Has a lot of data on item creation as well as all the property types.

I of course love this game... The developers are humans and with such a huge game like this it's hard to get all the bugs and everything correct in a few days...
Gj booyah, you'll get it fixed...

So, I'm curious, because I love this game and the new item creation feature... what are the different property types? I've googled around, but I can't find an answer. I want my "empire" to be as diverse as possible. Anyone have a list?

Something is definitely going in with the 3 stacked money check-ins. My friends are reporting getting only points and when I tried it with 3 stacks of $400,000,000 the game crashed completely.
Posted by: Kelkee | Jun 09, 2010 at 12:15 PM
@Max
you have to use 2 items for then to give you your money i don't know why but that's just how it is, hope that helps

Heya, @booyah folks.
Today's bug: @Julian sent me something yesterday. I don't know what. It still hasn't downloaded from the servers. The box at the bottom of the message has a spinwheel on it.
Posted by: jb | Jun 09, 2010 at 10:40 AM
On level 70 I am not getting cash for many of my checkins. The large stack of cash, gems, etc. I checkin with them but get no credit on the checkin

@Howard
When creating an item if you touch the part listed needed to create an item it will show you at what locations you can find that part.

Hello Booyah,
I have to say that you made an excellent update this time around. I haven't had this much fun trying to work out the fine details of a video game in a long time. The unlimited check ins for max level was also a great incentive for players. My one grevience is, as far as I know, there is no way to create clogs and work gloves, where as all other parts have some item creation counter part. Using check ins to get parts is very random and time consuming. My suggestion would be to remove the second item from the school category. I was very disappointed when I found it made the cheapest part in the game, considering how great the first item was. In it's place put a three pack of items with clogs, gloves, and whatever else you deem necessary. This little change would gaurantee my steady playing time for weeks to come. Thanks for your time and any response would be greatly appreciated.

@Booyah Was there any kind of a database rebuild or a backup? I lost 2 stamps: 1 yesterday and 1 today. The only thing the 2 stamps had in common was that they were created using parts that I obtained through trade/gift. The stamps vanished several hours after I created them (started/exited the app over 20 times, used them dozens of times).

@Jb,
From the time you accepted the trade to when you went to go make the item, did you exit the app at any point? If you could provide a step-by-step account of your process we will be better able to test this and try to come up with a solution.
Thanks,
The Booyah Team

@jb,
I just forwarded this along to our engineers. I'll let you know what they find. Thanks

So, @booyah... we have a bug.
Yesterday, following the discussion here, @Julian sent me a big stack of stuff: 7 planks, 7 fertilizer, and, later on, a pile of lightbulbs.
After he sent the lightbulbs I went to build the "Industrious Upgrade" ad the planks and fertilizer had _vanished_. The lightbulbs are still in my inventory this morning. The planks and fertilizer are still missing.
What's going on here?
Thanks!
JB

@julian Ah ha. Ok. It was, in fact, unclear that those multiples were the required number (this had better be a GREAT upgrade!) rather than just the 'have' number... I'd been assuming that they were all 1x needs.
Friend request sent, not that I have enough of anything else to finish it anyway, but hey. :)
Posted by: jb | Jun 07, 2010 at 02:24 PM
@jb Here's how the item creation works. Under the requirement, you'll see the parts needed. For each part, it will tell you how many of that part you have followed by how many of that part is required for the item creation. For the "Industrious Upgrade" you'll need 8x Light Bulb, 8x Wood Planks, 8x Fertilizer, $100,000. From the sound of your post, it seems that you probably don't have enough of the parts. Add me as a friend, and I'll give you some wood planks (onstar at gmail).
