MyTown 4.0 is now available for download. You can get it free here! In our previous post, which can be read here, we went over the new and enhanced town UI. In addition to the UI change, MyTown 4.0 boasts a host of new features, including the ability to create items at properties, a trading function, Collectibles (now called Stamps) which have special abilities, the addition of exclusive items that drop at green and yellow proximate check-ins, and 10 brand new challenging levels! Check-ins will also recharge over time, and there are items which drop upon check-in that give players extra check-ins! Additionally, once you reach level 70, you will have unlimited check-ins! We hope you enjoy this reward for completing MyTown! ;)

Given that Item Creation and Trading are new to MyTown, we'll explain these a bit more below. Enjoy MyTown 4.0!
Item Creation
MyTown 4.0 introduces the concept of item creation. Items will be created from the property page, and each item has basic requirements in order to be made. Certain items can only be made at specific property categories (you can see what category your property is when checking-in and also by looking at the top-right hand corner of the property page), some items require you have enough skill points to create them, and others can only be made if your property is upgraded to a certain level. One Skill point is acquired each time an item is created. Once you've created an item a few times, you'll be able to build the next item, given you have the correct Parts (these are dropped when checking-in) to make the item, and have upgraded your property accordingly.
Below is a step-by-step flow for item creation:
When you're looking at a property that has the ability to create an item you'll notice a pop-up icon above the menu button
Once you click the create item button from the menu, you'll be taken to a screen which tells you about the requirements necessary to create the item. Each item requires "parts", money, and a certain amount of time. An important note: when you're creating an item, you will be unable to collect rent from this property during that time.
Once you click the create button, the item creation process begins! You'll be taken to the property screen where a progress bar will be shown.
After the process has been finished, tap the complete button. You'll be shown a reward screen showcasing your achievement!
Trading
You can initiate a trade with any of your friends. To do this, tap the items button on your home page, then click the "trades" sub-tab. Once you're at this screen, click the "Request Item Trade," and select the friend you want to trade with. You can trade multiple items at a time with a friend.
After you've submitted your trade proposal, you can see the status of it from the same "trades" tab as mentioned above. Here, all pending trades (ingoing and outgoing proposals) are housed, along with the status. You can cancel a trade at any time! Be sure to check the trade page often as you'll need to click the "collect" button once a friend has accepted your trade!
And there you have it. Make sure to download MyTown 4.0 for FREE from the app store now! And while you're at it, follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook. We'll be giving away t-shirts, among other things in the coming weeks! Enjoy!
Update 1: Unlimited Rent Collector Bug
Currently there is a bug that affects the use of the Unlimited Rent Collector button. A patch for the problem should be available shortly. It's been submitted to Apple, so right now we're simply waiting for Apple to approve it. If you have the Unlimited Rent Collector, you can collect ALL your rent by following the below steps.
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every
property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent."
This is only a temporary solution. The patch should be out in a few days, and when it is, your Rent Collector will work as expected. Thank you for your patience.
@booyah : Yeah, the upgrade is unlocked, unlike the next one over which has 2 red (un)check(ed) boxes listing a skill and a building level, and yeah, I've got both wifi and cell connection to the net.

@Jb, Is your property upgraded to the necessary level? Also, be sure you're connected to the internet.
@StudioDave, @Julian is correct in his assessment.
@BrianR, The new change to check-ins will actually give you more check-ins every day as opposed to our old system. As for proximity, try pressing the refresh button on the check-in page. We're working on the GPS functionality as well.
@Kelly, thanks for the feedback, we'll be adding polish in our next updates as well.
@Francisco, Currently MyTown is only available in the US. We'll be expanding internationally shortly.

So, there seems to be something odd with the item creation.
I finally picked up some wood planks, to go with the Light Bulb and the Fertilizer (and of course some money), and I'm trying to create the level 1 "Industrious Upgrade", but I can't. The items are all white, but the cash is green and 'Create' is grayed out.
(Yes, I have far more than the required 100k bucks.)
Thanks

@Studiodave I'm not on the development team, but I've been QA'ing the software on my own. You can use both stamps as long as they are different types. If you have both the Autumn Tree (+4500 points at check-in) and a Cherry Tree (+8000 points at check-in) in one venue, then when you check in at this venue, you will only get +8000 points since only the best stamp of that type will be in play. However, if you have a Cherry Tree (+8000 points at check-in), a Stone Lantern (raise rent on decorated property by $125,000,000), and Floor Spotlights (reduce upgrade price of decorated property by $200,000,000), then all 3 will work since they are different types. You will get +8000 points when you check in at this venue, you will collect an additional $125M in rent, and your upgrade price will be reduced by $200M every time you upgrade. Hope this helps.

I hope the Booyah team has been testing MyTown and developing on iOS4 since its coming out on June 21st.
I for one will not be happy if we upgrade our devices and the application crashes or does not work at all.
Posted by: Kelkee | Jun 07, 2010 at 12:10 PM
Here is a question for you Booyah team, regarding some items, example : Cherry Tree gives you +8,000 points while checking in and Runway Lighting gives you 600,000,000 upgrade discount. The question is, If I have both a Cherry Tree and Runway Lighting on the same property will I get the bonus points on Check In and the discount when I upgrade? They say that only the best stamp is used but is that the best stamp for the operation?

Can I make a suggestion to put this on the main part of the blog page and not only in here with the comments so folks can know it is a problem that has a fix in the pipeline?

I Like the additions that he game added but HATE the 40 check INS being distributed over time, it is VERY annoying, 2 check ins available then it tells you "more in 29 minutes", then 1 check in available, check ins available then it tells you "more in 17 minutes", then 5 check in available, etc..
Do you guys really expect your users to be married to this game In this way? you have to open it every 15 minutes to check in at 1 to 5 places, that is annoying and is something that will cause me and I am sure a lot of other users to give up on this game as most people do not have the time to play the game every 15 minutes of their day.
Also, your GPS capabilites seem to be lacking accuray or has issues of some other sort as I can be within 50 feet of numerous businesses and ALL will be indicated as red, other times a few will appear as green or yellow and I check in but when I go back to check in to another they are all red. This means yu will rarely get the good stuff that you get when checking in to the near by businesses.
I hope you address these issues.
Thanks

Hey! Our support team is located in the US and operates during normal business. Responses usually take about 2-3 Business Days, as all emails are answered in the order received. The Rent Collector problem is an issue that we've addressed, and a patch should be available shortly. It's been submitted to Apple, so right now we're simply waiting for Apple to approve it. Until then, to collect your rent, follow the below steps.
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent."
This is only a temporary solution. The patch should be out in a few days, and when it is, your Rent Collector will work as expected.
Thanks for playing MyTown,

@Dd2482
I had the same issue, and now everyone is. I started following BooYah on twitter a while back, and when I sent an email, I followed it up with a tweet. A guy named @BooyahDavid immediately contacted me back even tho it was a holiday and gave me instructions on how to get it back.
But as of right now, they're updating the rent collector and are about to submit it. So for now, we're all stuck with old fashioned scrolling thru our craploads of properties.
Don't let it spoil the game for ya tho, it's still a fun game.

I have sent e-mail after e-mail to Booyah with no response. I bought the rent collecter (unlimited). As soon as the upgrade occurred, the rent collecter No longer works! I want a refund! You took a good game and destroyed it.

Thanks for your feedback.
(1) Yes, that is correct. I don't have any Cafe properties that are level 15+ or any Nighlife properties that are level 14+ so I don't have those capabilities yet. I guess this is part of the strategy, so I'll need to work on these buildings first.
(2) Thanks.
(3) For FB, it works as you described. It only shows my FB friends who are currently playing MyTown. For my Contacts (iPhone Contacts), this does not seem to work that way. It shows all my contacts.

Posted by: francisco | Jun 04, 2010 at 09:19 PM
Well... that was a nice, short run you had, wasn't it?
I hope none of you guys at Booyah expected to retire on this game.

I'm having a little trouble collecting rent even while connected with the internet (On old 2G I-phone and plan) I still don't get any sort of income growth from my property.

@Julian
Great points, and thanks for bringing them up.
To point #1, you can actually use Chemical X to make those items at other properties (Cafes and Nightlife) specifically.
To Point #2, this is something we're looking at, great suggestion!
To Point #3, when you go to the invite friends page, the only ones that show up (in the FB and Address Book tab), or users who are already playing/have played MyTown.
Hope this clears some things up. Enjoy 4.0!!!

Thanks Booyah Team for the updates. Much appreciated. Just a few suggestions:
(1) Allow the "Gas and Convenience" to create more basic items using the Chemical X. For example SUGAR. It's a Level 1 ingredient for many types of establishments and a Level 2 ingredient for Nightlife, yet it's hard to obtain. It'd also be nice if users could make BAMBOO STALK, DUCT TAPE, SCRAP METAL, etc.
(2) Explain exactly what each stamp does. If the item does nothing, then state that it's only for decoration. However, it'd be nice if every stamp did something (besides decoration), even if it's something small.
(3) I only see an option to "INVITE" friends. Could you add a "FIND" friends option? I am interested to see which of my friends are already on MyTown without having to bother all my friends.

Hey guys,
Just to let everyone know, we submitted the patch to fix the rent collector problem last night. In the mean-time, for those with the Unlimited rent collector, you can still collect your rent.
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent."
This is just a temporary solution. When the patch is approved by Apple the Rent Collector will function properly once again. Thanks for your patience.

Hello,
I am from Romania and I am at level 61, but after I upgraded to 4.0 I can not check in, because the Iphone is telling me that "We're sorry. We can't find anything nearby. Our servers are having a hard time keeping up with so many users. If you are on a network, please try the refresh button in the upper right. thanks for your patience." and it's been 2 day since i push the refresh button, but nothing is happening.
What shoul I do?

I love MyTown and I'm totally addicted to it. I really want to love this new update, but I'm finding that there are too many unexplained details.
Collectibles are now stamps, which is fine, but unless you read the MyTown blog, you wouldn't know that. It says that stamps now have special abilities, but don't give any kind of examples. It's fun to discover things on your own, but giving ZERO information on things makes it hard for me to want to fork over real money on items that I'm unsure of what they will do.
Creating your own items is cool, but it seems like the items aren't very useful. What is someone who is a level 53 going to do with an item that only gives you 30-40 points? I'm hoping that as I progress with creating items, the items become more powerful.
I'd just really like to see you guys explain things a little bit more.
As for the people who complain about the limited check-ins, you're only supposed to check into places when you're actually AT them. Do you really go to more than 40 places in a day? Didn't think so. Stop cheating.

From the previous blog:
"You CAN actually COLLECT ALL RENT:
(1) Enter My Town.
(2) Click the right arrow ONE AT A TIME and scroll through every property.
(3) When you reach the LAST property, click on Collect All Rent."

I have the collect all rent unlimited uses. When I pressed for the 1st building and and the arrow to the next the rent has ready gone.
"The Collect All issues were addressed in the comments of the previous blog.
They know. Its being worked on.
Until then Press the arrow button and hit Collect until its fixed."
So it doesn't work with the arrow.
BTW, I paid $4.95 (the highest cost item for this function). I hope they have the fix soooooon.
Thanks.

Rent is completely busted. It doesn't collect all just the one that is highlighted. The other rent bars for other properties is zeroed out so I lost billions of dollars in rent since upgrading.

why isn't there collect all in the store (btw add me williamyourchak@gmail.com)
